At United Way KW we want to bring together all corners of our community, and we know that we can’t do that without the support of the business community. We understand that you want to invest in a thriving community, that you want to make a difference where you work, live and play. As the largest non-governmental funder of social services you can know that when you invest in United Way KW, every dollar is put to work right here in your community.
Making a corporate investment in United Way KW provides a unique opportunity to give back to your community. Not only will we ensure that you are recognized for your gift, in accordance with our donor recognition guidelines, but we’ll make sure you have the tools you need to share your community investments with others. We’d also be happy to provide a tax receipt for your gift, if appropriate.
Providing gifts-in-kind – non-cash goods or services – is mutually rewarding and can offer tax benefits.
Together with the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, United Way KW has developed the Small Business Community Champion initiative in order to engage with small and medium sized businesses in the community. We recognize that running a business is challenging, and that along with those challenges come moments of joy, moments when there’s nothing but excitement about what you can bring to the community.
We want to help you find a way to give back to your community, a way to say thank you to your customers and clients, a way that acknowledges both the challenges and the joys. We’d love to invite you to partner with us as a Small Business Community Champion as we work to build Healthy People, Strong Communities. Your $500 contribution will make a positive difference in the lives of individuals like Karina, a mother of two, who has battled depression since she was a teenager. After some difficult circumstances, she lost care of her children, and was forced out of her home. After spending time at a shelter, and through the services of United Way supported agencies, Karina found an apartment in a building, complete with on-site counselors, financial supports and the ability to access the resources that she needed to turn her life around. She now sees her family and children, and lives a healthier, happier life.
Each year we run a variety of events that support our community activities. From An Evening with the Kitchener Rangers in February to our annual Campaign Kickoff in September, from our StairClimb event in April to The Day of Caring in June, we have a number of sponsorship opportunities available. These opportunities will create brand awareness for your business in the community, and will provide a visible demonstration of your desire to give back.
Grow leadership within your organization and foster team spirit by holding an annual United Way workplace campaign, typically in the fall. Employees are canvassed by selected coworkers, with the option of making a contribution through payroll deduction. Combining fundraising efforts with other initiatives such as a staff BBQ makes giving fun while bringing awareness to social issues in our community.
Companies that run United Way KW workplace campaigns – particularly those that match employee contributions – report improved morale and happier, more productive staff. As an added bonus, satisfied employees make great ambassadors and can boost recruitment efforts.
United Way KW’s Sponsored Employee Program (SEP) offers a unique opportunity to practice corporate social responsibility in a way that benefits your organization, your selected employee, and our community at large. Potential leaders from a variety of workplaces join forces with United Way staff for a 15-week period, usually during our fall campaign. They gain valuable skills as they play a crucial role in supporting and inspiring hundreds of workplace campaigns in our community. As a sponsoring organization, you’ll receive public recognition in United Way publications, at our special events, and on our web site. You’ll also receive recognition every time your sponsored employee goes into the community on our behalf.
Don’t have an employee to loan? Donating sponsorship funding gives United Way KW the flexibility to hire an individual with specific skills to support our fundraising efforts.
